Press Release

November 2 - 17, 2013
Opening Reception: November 2, 2013, 2 – 4 PM

Key Projects is pleased to present Material Histories an exhibition featuring Sermin Kardestuncer, Kirsten Kucer and Rossana Martinez. Material Histories looks at three artists who use natural materials to make work that is reflective of their lives, past and present. Histories are revealed through the process of making art with materials patiently collected.

Sermin Kardestuncer uses Sienna earth, collected during her travels in Italy, as a natural pigment on paper, then with thread, methodically stitches another history through its surface. Kirsten Kucer’s work using Mexican adobe, originates from the time she spent in that country and her curiosity about the land she lived on, its history and its people. Rossana Martinez uses beet ink harvested from her garden, to document simple gestures of her body performance pieces.
